What To Wear For Your Senior Session.
General Guidelines from Lansing based Professional Photography studio - AA Studios LLC
Documenting the milestone of your senior year is a photoshoot that can't be missed.
It's nice to go into the next chapter of your life, wherever it may lead, with a nice collection of fresh, modern images.
Plus if you are leaving the nest, your parents will love to have photos of you while you are away studying, working or traveling the globe.
Spring
If you love flowers, then Spring is a perfect time for your senior shoot. There are lots of pretty flowers in bloom and we can capture gorgeous feminine imagery. It also seems like a symbolic time for a senior shoot as everything blooms and starts a new life cycle for the year.
Denim and white look nice and clean if there are many colors already provided by Mother Nature. But if you like colorful clothes like red or pink, that will look great as well just keep color pattern simple and not busy.
But of course since we live in Michigan where winters are cold and long, you most likely will not see colorful flowers until late spring or even closer to summer! Therefore sometimes we can take fall themed or even winter themed shots in early spring. And depending on the weather Girls can break out the chunky boots, light-weight sweaters and favorite jewelry or hats as well as colorful dresses, long airy skirts, combinations of jeans and shirts for their Senior Portraits. I always advice to bring couple different outfits.
Guys can wear stylish jackets with jeans for a semi-formal look. Then you can remove your jacket to take it to a casual look. Breathable Button-downs, Cotton sweaters are also nice for photos. Just remember to keep colors light and neutral like white, navy blue or maybe camel, or if you’re feeling trendy, a soft pink.
Summer
I love shooting seniors in summer because it is so warm. There is a sense of freedom in the air and we can find so many places that are pretty in the summer months.
Girls can go for flowing skirts or dresses, cute tops and lots of summery accessories like sunglasses and hats that we can use to mix up the shots.
Guys can wear shorts with smart tees or shirts. For colors bright or pastel solids look nice. If you prefer pants or jeans it can also be a good option especially if we are heading to the park, forest or garden area for photos.
Fall
Fall is one of the most popular seasons for senior portraits! And I think it is one of the most beautiful seasons!
Too bad we have a very limited window of weeks that have the best colors and it’s not raining or snowing because you know, it is Michigan after all =)
In Autumn, there are a lot of yellow, orange and red hues on the trees and leaves falling on the ground. So you want to wear clothing that will match those colors. But as well as make you to stand out. Out of all the seasons, Autumn can be the hardest to coordinate your wardrobe with. Black and white is a safe bet and is also classic and timeless. Also, denim is suitable for this time of year.
If the weather is warm enough, boys can go for khaki shorts teamed with a polo shirt.
Ladies, bring your favorite outfits with a nice dress, either casual or dressy. You can wear your hair up then let it down later to change your look.
Winter
Winter can be a fun season for a senior shoot.
If it is snowing, bright-colored clothing pops against the white snow. Solid reds, pinks, purples and greens all look lovely.
You can mix up the colors with several blocks, such as jeans with a bright top in one color and a bright hat or shoes in another color. Scarves are also great for adding a splash of color and a touch of luxury. You want to stay bundled up warm but try to wear tight clothing that shows your figure but also make sure you can move in your outfit easily so I can take lots of action shots of you walking, jumping and running. Those shots look fun and warm you up =)
You are always welcome to bring several outfits to the photoshoot and we can chose what works better with the location/weather. Also, layers are a great way to change up a look without swapping the outfit altogether.
Most importantly, no matter what the season, wear clothes you are comfortable in to feel happy and relaxed. It will reflect in the photos so I can capture your best smile. Also, avoid busy patterns, neon colors, prints and logos as they date quickly and are distracting to the eye.
